I bit the bullet, suggestions for sling for my new encore.
« on: August 07, 2003, 03:01:47 AM »
I ordered me the 7mm-08(encore) and should be in on Tues. Could you guys suggest a good sling and what site to find it on the internet.  I will be mainly using it out of a treestand and have a box stand to shoot it out of also.  Thanks guys for the recommendations.

Next purchase will be the scope after I get this paid off.  Looking forward to shooting it and my first deer with a pistol.  I know Im going to get hooked after reading all yalls posts on here.

a good nylon 1" SUPER SLING is my preference. i think i got mine at a local shop several years ago. you may check midwayusa or mid-south shooters supply.
for studs in the encore, i go to a local smith. he has a homemade tool to thread the walnut grip and forend for woodscrew type studs. this keeps them from busting the wood. i put the front stud on the front face of the forarm, and the rear replaces one of the small screws that holds the grip cap on.
on the contender i do the same, except replace the front forearm screw with a machine thread type stud, which does double duty to hold the forearm on.
look at the specs on the 2x7 burris ler scope. it has 21' field of view on 2x@100 yards. this would make it easier to pick up your target in woods hunting situations.
keep us posted :D

Hawghead - what version of the Encore did you get, what barrel lenght, blued or stainless, which grips?

First, I have not yet used a sling on a Contender or Encore for hunting, I have one of the Uncle Mikes bandolier type holsers that I have used.  However, I have purchased and plan to install a sling set up on one of my Encores.  The sling I bought is the one TC sells, and the mounting hardware is sold by TC but made by Uncle Mikes (#9703).  The Uncle Mikes installation hardware is pretty good, and it comes with an extra grip cap with a hole already cut in it so you don't have to mess up your original.  It also uses a bolt to replace the original grip bolt making it very strong, not like the old TC type that you just bolt onto the weak plastic grip cap.  Since then I have seen another sling that I thougt was interesting - the "Just Sling It" handgun sling - I am thinking about getting one of these.  Take a look at the links below, hope this helps. :D

"just sling it" gets my vote. I have one on my Encore and with the quick release buckle to adjust lenth from carry to shoot it is a joy.I bought mine through VVCG.
