i would like to make a rifle for shooting foxes, coyotes, and mainly deer hunting on the edge of corn fields, so shots maybe kinda long, but under 300, mostly 200 or less.  ya think the 25/06 is up for it?  is the 25 enough power to knock a deer down under 300?
also, i do not hand load atm, so is there enough factory ammo to choose from, to find a good shooting load?  thanks for any info!
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

I shot my 1 and only rifle killed deer with a 25-06 shooting a 117gr Hornady SST at 279 yards, it was a doe and I hit it low in the neck dropped like a rock.  Two minutes later my buddy using my rifle put a 117gr SST through the heart of a small buck at 210 yards, the buck ran 30 yards and ran his nose right into the ground on a full run flipping end over end.  Mike pulled the heart out in 3 peices.  If you can hit the deer in the vitals doesnt matter the distance you will get the deer.

Yup, it'll work fine on deer out to 400yds or so, factory ammo is all I shoot in my 25-06 Ultra, both the Federal 115gr Nosler partition and Hornady 117gr BTSP shoot well under 1" two shot groups, usually touching or close to it, the third round opens the group up to 1¼"-1½", that's out of the box with no work to the forend,  I didn't mess with it since it shoots so good and I didn't bother with handloading for it either!! Use the search feature, there are tons of 25-06 threads here, in the small bore forum and in other forums. ;)

25-06 is fine to at least 500, more if you reload high BC bullets like Bergers.  I'd trust a Handi to 300 yards easily as well.

It sounds like your post describes the uses for the 25-06 perfectly.  Excellent choice  :)

""maybe kinda long??? under 300, but mostly 200 and less????"" dude you freaking lost me, and if you have to ask if the 25-06 "enough power to knock a deer down under 300?" you don't need to be shooting 300 yards. ive told you a bunch of times last few years around this time of year what you need is to learn how to shoot whatever it is you shooting , not try to get some gun that will " make you shoot better at long range" . guns dont kill things, you do.

I could not get my 25-06 to shoot, which surprised me after all the great posts on that caliber here. I ended up with a .270.

Around here we call our .243's and 25/06's our beanfield guns ;D

The 25/06 is fine for deer but not for fox or coyotes unless your just shooting them and lettin them lay. Not that you could not use them with different loads for varmints and fur but to think you could use the same load for all three may be streching it a bit. And trying to carry different loads on the same hunt is not that easy to do as your poi will change quite a lot at long ranges you discribe you would need to have a very fine scope and keep good track of how many clicks each load has to be moved and while your changing your scope the critters are not waiting for you. If you hand loaded you could maybe get just the right bullet to do it all though. Kurt
