Got one back
« on: October 09, 2008, 04:00:56 PM »
CAUTION, don't read this if you are tired of hearing about things being sent back for barrel fitting!  I got one frame back today, sent 2, the 357 barrel was mounted as was a scope rail.  Hammer extention was loose in the box, which was beat up, and had scraped the barrel and stock.  The extention was bent on the open end.  Barrel fits ok, extractor seems to work.  Had asked for trigger work on both frames, this one is not any better.  No swivels in the plastic stock, invoice says there is. same with the forearm.  Invoice says 357 barrel with sights, but has charges for sight blade, screws, sight slide, washer tang screw, tang screw, and $15.00 each for barrel fitting, test, shipping and handling, and last but not least GR-PROOF.  Total on the invoice, $228.04.  I can't wait to see what the other invoice is for the other one when I get it back.  Sent 2 frames 6-13-08 to get 2 barrels, 2 sets of plastic stocks, and 3 rails with hammer extensions.  Hell for $21.00 more I could have bought the whole gun new and had it then.  Happy with this?  Not in the least.  I will be calling Remington in the morning.

My guess is they didin't have any 357 mag accessory barrels in stock with sights, so they fitted one of the SB1 barrels that only have a scope rail and added the sights and then charged for it as Gardner did for barrels that didn't come with sights, they should refund that cost since the #357 accessory barrel states it has open sights.  ;)

If that were the case, shouldn't have been charged for the scope rail.  And what is this charge for testing the barrel and again for proofing the barrel?  I could go along with fitting and shipping and handling, but the rest is BS.  DP

Reminds me of a past post where someone said they didn't make any money on the barrel fitting program.

Seems like that may have been remedied! ;D
My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

Any way you look at it, there's evidently some confusion in the billing department.  ::)

We were closing the shop today and I heard the UPS truck pull up. I knew it HAD TO BE MY RIFLE! I ran outside and the driver was inside fiddling with an H&R box. The box was COMPLETELY MANGLED! Twisted, torn, bent. *#$^%*#@!!!!!!!

I asked the driver if that was for me, he said it was so bad he wasn't even going to bring it in, he was going to send it back and let them make a claim, unless I wanted it. He flipped the box over and I could hear parts rattle around inside, so I let him send it back. *#$^%*#@!!!!!!!

I'd say it's all UPS's fault, but it's in the same little dinky cardboard box that you get when you buy a new rifle. Doesn't look reinforced at all, at least this one didn't. *#$^%*#@!!!!!!!

I called H&R, told them what had happened and politely expressed my displeasure. Next Tuesday would have made 4 months since I sent it off. Deer season starts in 3 weeks.

I am/used to be Remington Green all the way. My first rifle was a Remington, my first shotgun was a Remington, my main deer rifle now is a custom Remington. Shot greenbox Remington ammo in em all.

I guess I'm gonna count on them making it right, but this is getting ridiculous! *#$^%*#@!!!!!!!

*sigh*

I do have an AR-15 DPMS frame I need to finish. Anyone wanna guess if I'm going to use DPMS parts to finish it.

Yah, my box was smashed flat and a hole poked in the bottom of it.  Like I said, the hammer extension was loose inside and flattened out on the open end.  No extra padding inside other than a piece of blue plastic foam about an inch long and 1 1/2 inch wide.  Don't know what it was there for, just sliding around in the box with the hammer extension.  I was to busy at work to call Big Green today, will have to wait till Monday now.  Still haven't seen the second one yet.  And it is the same box you get when you buy one in the store.  DP

I've had whole rifles come back from Gardner, strongly boxed and totally undamaged.  I've save the boxes to ship traded rifles and barrels, or to UPS my own to myself if I'm hunting far away and don't want the hassle of flying with guns.  I don't recall members speaking of this problem in the past......Tim, can you add to this?

Gardner damaged a stock now and then and sometimes didn't pack multiple barrels well, but usually they did good. It appears Remington is shipping in just an inner product box that's insufficient without the outer box that Gardner always used. I too have a big stack of boxes of both types, but I don't plan on using them anytime soon, I ship frames only when I order barrels, they always came back double boxed from Gardner!! ;D Someone needs to bend Customer Service's ear on the problem, get em DP!! ;D They will get the point after they have to file a bunch of insurance claims with UPS, but that's an unacceptable learning curve. >:(

I'm out of town, but I went and checked the box my H&R came in when it was new before I left yesterday. It's got that little warning about needing to reinforce the box if used for shipping. I didn't notice if the mangled box had that note on it or not, but it was none-the-less, destroyed.

I shipped the frame only as well and ordered a new forend. From the way it sounded sliding around in the box, you could tell it didn't have a stock on it and they didn't pad it worth a flip. It sounded like it slid back and forth a good 14 inches!

I'm worried about the frame now and what it might look like. Still have the stock, forend, and 243 bull barrel in the safe in pristine condition.

That is totally unaceptable coming from the factory. Also the monkeys throwing the boxes around at UPS don't help much neither and there is nothing better to an antimonkey than a box marked Remmington Or H&R. Getting to throw one of those around must be a great joy to them. Kurt

All of these threads about Remington's barrel program have convinced me to just buy the complete gun.
My experience is superior to your opinion.

Yah, I think from now on I will get complete guns, or buy from someone here.  Had gotten 3 other barrels mounted at Gardner in the past, but don't think I will mess with the barrel program anymore.  Gonna be makin' that phone call in the morning.  Gotta remember to start nice, at least before I let the scotch, irish and german come out.  DP

I sent my receiver into H&R on Oct 8th to be fitted with a .243 barrel.  I was just wondering how long it would actually take to get my gun back so I tried to call.  Well...I have tried four different times and have been put on hold for over ten minutes each time before I got disgusted and hung up.  I don't understand why they don't have an e-mail address where they can be reached.  If I e-mail Remington would they answer my question(s)?
