First deer taken with paper-patched bullet
« on: November 25, 2008, 01:35:39 AM »
I took my first deer with PPB's this last week.  Got a nice buck on opening day and then a doe 5 days later.  Cartridge was 45/70 out of a Ruger No.1, RCBS 45-405-FN bullet cast of almost pure lead (little tin added) weighing 416 grains, velocity was 1850 fps.  Perfect 45 cal. entrance wounds with about 1.25 to 1.5" exit wounds.  Both bled out quickly after short runs.

Congratulations!  I also have a # 1 and your velocity is right up there with mine with virtually the same weight bullet (423 grains).  Can go hotter, but found I don't need to and I've got an accurate load they way it is.
