buckeye, you are probably not getting any responses bceause the item you ask about, a "NEF .357 mag/guage slug combo" is not something I, and perhaps others, are not familiar with. I have no knowledge of that item. If it is a .357 Mag barrel and a shotgun barrel fitted to the same frame it sounds like a good combination. But then again it all depends on what you want to use it for. Best of luck....<><....:)

I have the new SB1 .357, but I didn't buy the combo because I didn't need a slug gun.

The .357 is very accurate and fun to shoot.

The SB1 357mag/20ga and SB1 44mag/12ga combos are new for 2008. The big difference between this combo and previous rifle/shotgun combos is no other rifle barrels can be fitted to the frame.

*Note: The frame of the 44 Mag. (SC1-414) and the 357 Mag. (SC1-324) cannot be fit with any other centerfire rifle barrel. They are capable of being fit with accessory shotgun barrels, but their rifle capability is limited to the specific 44 or 357 Mag. barrel that it is shipped on the gun.

I may send my .357 SB1 back for a 20 gauge vent rib/choke tube barrel.

Buck i have an older 357 ejector 357 mag handi... shoots great , next to no recoil and mine gets a 140 gr XTP out of the barrel @ 2000 FPS over a helping of IMR 4227 ,groups are real tight .. And hitting half and inch high @ 50 and dead 10 ring @ 100
I just got the same combo but in the 44 mag/12 ga slug , so no help on any slug knowledge ... I have a thread tryin to find out best choices for that tracker barrel myself

Enjoy that lil 357 they are awesome fun and cheap to load and shoot

PS an after thought here and not tryin to hi-jack ..... Quick if those new recievers arent set up to handle the higher power centerfire cartidges .. Could a possible 45 LC barrel be good with those new 44 Mag recievers  ???

I was curious about the same thing, but H&R will not fit other barrels. The website says "limited to the barrel specifically sent with the gun", so you would have to fit one yourself. I would already have bought one if they would fit a .45 colt barrel to it.

Until H&R offers the 45 Colt on the SB1 357/44 frame, I'd not recommend it.  ;)

The 357 and 44 mag shotgun upgrade has puzzled me a bit as there
are several other rifle calibers that would offer less rear thrust
to the receiver than the 44 mag.  Thrust being calculated by
the max psi times the area of the bore at the case head.

Therefore I have to assume marketing or cost of production
factors influencing their decisions instead of engineering
considerations alone....

One problem I see with the SB1 in other pistol chamberings, particularly the 45 Colt, is someone that wants to rechamber it to Casull or 460S&W, I think their pressures would have catastophic affect on the SB1 frame and the shooter.  :'( Of course that could apply to the 357 being rechambered to 35 Whelen too. They may very well offer it in other chamberings next year, ya never know.

After a lot of research and thinking I bought a compact model 20 ultra slug gun today.   Thanks for all of the input.
