Help with new pistol loads 44 mag and 357 mag
« on: October 31, 2008, 05:21:29 AM »
I just received my order from Montana bullet works (very fast service A++++).I   have 44 cal. 300 grain gas checks and 357 mag 150 gas checks both are wide flat nose.Does anybody have any loads for either of these bullets ? The powders that I have are lil gun,h110 and 2400 .The reloading manuals that I have do not show any loads for bullets with gas checks. I am going to use these in our upcoming deer season. The  pistols are 44 mag.ruger super redhawk and a dan wesson model 15 357 mag.
Thanks in advance,

My Lyman 48th edition shows loads for 300 gr gas checked; start load of 14.0 gr of 2400 or start load of 17.7 for H110. For the 357 they show a 155 gr gas checked bullet with starting loads of 10.6 for 2400 and 12.0 for H110.

both of your guns a hell for stout build guns so i will say this. You can eaisly and safely use any jacketed data in a published manual that is for a jacketed bullet with your lead bullets of the same weight. The minor seating variations between your cast bullets and the jacketed arent goiing to get you into pressure problems and id guess if anything your pressures will be less with the cast then the jacketed

I've fired the Lee 310 grain G/C bullets from my SRH with 19 grains of H110 with no ill effects, and it was very accurate...
