Max load

I have shot 3 777 (150 gr) pellets behind 250 gr sst and shockwave ...Are 3 pellets (150) gr still ok with a larger bullet. I am thinking of going up as high as a 345 gr powerbelt.. Also what are the pellet's in 777 equal to in loose form..I just read (and thank goodness) on another thread that 120 gr of 777 by volume was max..I didnt know ..I thought I could shoot 150gr of loose..since I shoot can shoot 3 50gr 777 pellet's . I am planning to take my powder scale to the range and a few size's of bullet;s and 2 different sabot's. And try to work up a good load for out to 200 yds. I have used 250 gr sst or shockwave with 2 777 pellets up to now.But i have heard that the 300 gr with a little heavier charge shoots a little flatter. Thanks Drop

As a general safety rule, more bullet = less powder.  Recoil with those heavy slugs and max powder charge is bound to be heavy.

if you use 3 pellets with a powerbelt make sure its the 338 platinum or 444 flat point.

Why do you want to shoot 3 pellets?

If you push that Powerbelt that hard it won't work very well on game.

The quote is correct...
150 grains of T7 pellets is approximately equal to 150 grains of loose BP/PYRO but since loose T7 is approximately 15% stronger than loose BP or Pyro... so if you want to shoot the equivelent load of loose T7 then reduce 150 by 15% actually I think 10% is closer but 15% is safer.  Plus you might need to know that there are now Magnum T7 pellets on the market that are stronger than the regualar T7 pellets - so might check what you have.

You do not say what gun you are shooting but if it is a CVA you can only shoot 100 grains loose in it according to the manufacturer, which would further reduce your load, but in fairness to CVA 100 grains is really a good all-around load.

I don't want to read to much into your post but you need to measure bp subs by volume not weight (you mentioned using a scale).  You may have meant that but I figured that I would mention it just in case.  You can weigh several volume charges of 777 and use that weight to measure equal cahrges on a scale if you want.

That is what I intend to do..take several charge's by volume   measure them, average them ..then measure out my loads on a scale something like 120 gr volume =? how many grains weight. I think one could fine tune a load. But the question I still have is. Are 3 T7 pellets equal to 150 gr of loose powder? So in the T/C encore that I shoot the max load is 3 T7 .50 50gr pellets..How many loos grain is the max load? Drop

The Max load for an Encore is 150 grains of BP or Pyro Loose powder

The max load of T7 in a TC Encore is about 127 grain of loose T7-2f - because you need to reduce T7 by volume about 15% to equal BP or Pyro

100 grains of T7 by volume weighs approximately 77.7 grains

The other reason a 150 gr pellet is not equal to 150 loose powder is they have to use a filler to hold the powder in pellet form. I read that 20% of a pellet was filler. Which would mean 150 gr pellet would only have 120 grs of powder.

I am stopping by tomorrow night to pick up a pound of 777..FFFG I read here that the FFFG burns cleaner and because it is imore fine that it is also a littler hotter... The cleaner sounds good to me. So I am shooting 2 777 pellets and as I read it that would be about equal to 85 gr of FFG...About how much would that be in FFFG?  I would like to step up the charge a little and  have the capabilities to shoot out to 200yds. I am goint to be using the Hornaday 250 and 300 gr sst. Anybody else have any input? Thanks Drop

FFFg is hotter than FFg.  Generally accepted practice is to reduce the charge by 10% when switching between the two.  90 grains FFFg will give you the same performance as 100 grains FFg.  That also means, if your muzzleloader is listed as 100 grains max charge FFg, you probably ought to stick to 90 grains FFFg. 

I've always found that loose powder is the way to go, it really lets you fine-tune your load to the rifle. 5 grains of powder can make a noticeable difference in accuracy.

Shot up to 120 gr by volume of T7 ffg today with a 300gr sst...Shot pretty good But The 3 T7 pellets (total 150 gr) shot well also..so does anybody know what the conversion from 150 gr of T7 pellets to T7 FFFG would be close to... I have 250 gr and 300 gr SSt with EZ load and black sabot's..The EZ gloed sabot shot 2 in the same hole @50 and then a flyer...the black sabot seem's the most accurate in my Encore..So now I need to work up a load that will work well out to 200 yds..unlikely that I would shoot that far...But 150 is a definate possibility , wher I hunt. Back to the range today.... my son is SOLD on that max charge with a 300 gr sst....his Encore was putting them all over in a 5 inch pattern at 100yds... I kept playing with mine.. I got one group at 3.5 inch at 200 yds..but with the wind blowing like it was it was 14 inch low and 8 inch to the left....So I went back to the old standby..100gr ffg T7...250 gr sst...first was left an inch and about right for elevation..but it was the fouling shot...then the next 3 were 1 ragged hole not quite 3 hole's wide ...About 1 inch or less outside to outside...Tried it out to 150 yds..5 inch's low and about a 3 inch group...(This is from a lead sled) I cant complain about this. But I know as I get better at BP so will the groups..Now to my son...SOLD on that MAGNUM load..So I finally told him to let me try thet thing..100 gr of ffg T7..250 gr SST...lead sled....3 shots in a little under an inch.  He has a pretty good case of shooter's shoulder from the last couple day's shooting...... But I do have a pound of the FFFG now. If I weigh out a 100 gr FFg by volume and measure the load on the scale's.... Would FFFG shoot about the same if I measured it out to match the weight of the 100gr FFG charge. Just dont want to waste the FFFG. Drop

In my Pro Hunter,I can use 120grs. T7---3 T7 pellets,or 3 pyrodex pellets. All shoot to the same POI. I actually prefer the pyrodex pellets (no crud ring),and I allways clean the gun up after shooting,so it really dosen't matter much,as to what propellant I use. Ron
