The Handi by far.  The mini 14 is known for it's inaccuracy.

I would take my chances with the Handi. The Ruger while many improvements have been made in their accuracy, will still not hold up to the Handi.

I own two Mini-14s, both are Ranch Rifles.  I also own an Untra in .223.  One of the Minis is a Stainless Steel model and is only about four years old.  It does not shoot near as well as the older one, only good out to about 150 yards..  The older one is one of the original models made back in the mid 80s.  The older one is very accurate, and great out to 400 yards, for shooting predators.  I carry it on the handle bars of my Snowmachine.  The Ultra is the gun I use when calling from a stand.  It is good on out to 500 yards, better than the Mini-14, and seems to hit harder at longer ranges.  While I can hit on out at longer ranges with the Ultra, (600 and 700 yards) the bullet looses too much velocity.  For wolves I try and limit my shots to under 300 yards with a .223.  I am wanting to work up some loads for the ultra using some heavier bullets so I can extend my effective range.  But so far I have not had the time to do this tedious task.

The Mini-14 shoots the 52gr bullets well, but will not shoot heavier bullets.  The same loads I shoot in the Mini shoots well in the Ultra so that is what I have been using.  I want to use 70 or 80 grain bullets.  Not sure how the Ultra will shoot them.

When calling I like to have the Mini lying beside me, just in case I have multiple critters come in.

The Ruger is not designed to be extremely accurate.  It is designed to expend a lot of ammo in a hurry, and it does that well.  I owned one for many years, and its fine for what it is built for.  The Handi is a far more accurate gun, but obviously lacks "firepower" compared to the Ruger.  Two different weapons for two different purposes.  Having shot my mouth off thus far, I would far rather have the Ruger than an AR15.  In a pinch, I'd rather have my beat up SKS than either.  I hunt with the Handi.

mechanic is correct   they are 2 differant weapons designed for 2 very differant purposes   the handi for accuracy and distance hands down    the mini for firepower and "other" vermin at closer ranges  i have both and use them for what they are intended   my HB handi has popped ground pigs past 400m i would never think of trying that with the mini  and i would never take the handi to the back fields after poachers at 2am or onto the job as a patrol rifle

Everyone has said what I was going to say so I have no need to say it.    Except.....Thank You Sourdough for a very good, informative post.

We can't shoot wolves here, but I was wondering if I could pack 'em up, ship 'em to Alaska and you'd take care of 'em for me???   I'm thinking that before too long there will be a "limited harvest".  When that happens, I'm going to be a major "Limited" harvester.  We, neighbors and self, have had about enough wolf hugging.  It's time to start blowing them away.  Most of us have lost livestock and/or pets.   Pete

Shoot, Shovel, Shut-up.  Three simple terms that have resolved several issues that seemed to be unsolvable.

Funny thing is a 24" Ultra weighs more than the Mini but the
Handi "feels" better on long walks.

Some guns just dont travel well as far as balance. Remington
R-15 (AR varient in 223) is heavier than the handy but due to
its balance I could carry the thing up/down mountains all day
where even my 17HM2 Handi Bull gets awkward after a few hours.
