7-08 recoil
« on: November 03, 2008, 07:52:55 AM »
Hi,
I've been thinking about picking up a 7-08 15" encore barrel and was wondering what the recoil is like?  I have a encore carbine, but no pistol barrels yet...Any input would be helpful.  Thanks - Fearless

it is definetly MORE than a .44 mag. I have a 15" 7mm IHMSA that is quite close to the 7-08, I can shoot 40 to 80 rounds in a fairly short time with only a little discomfort. I cannot do this with my 358JDJ contender, it is just to painfull! The 7-08 is about the upper limit of recoil tolerance for extended shooting. It IS a fantastic HUNTING round though! where it comes into its own is long range deer and antelope hunting. Only one shot is needed(usually) and its high accuracy and good terminal effects are appreciated.  There are breaks and heavier stocks that can reduce the FELT recoil of most any gun. You can put a heavy scope and rings/base on it, have a heavy fore arm and grip built. The gun will not be a light BUT may be MORE accurate.

I once had the 10" Encore 7mm-08 Remington barrel and it was very manageable and accurate now I have a 15" Encore 7mm-08 Remington barrel which is even more manageable and also accurate.

Mine likes 139/140 grain bullets with IMR-4064.

I have a T/C 2.5-7x 28mm Illuminated Centerplex Reticle Pistol Scope with Burris Dual Dovetail Base and Medium Rings.

My 12" Encore 454 Casull barrel is also manageable, but recoils harsher then the 7mm-08 Remington.

I also upgraded to the Pachmayr Grip and Forend, because the 454 Casull cracked my walnut grip.  Now I have studs for a sling.

I had to remove an offer to sell from this list today, and did not have the time to notify the poster.  You can't list offers to buy or sell on a discussion forum by GBO rules.  Put it either on classified forums or notify the person you want to reach with a pm.  And read the rules of GBO posted in the first post on this thread.

My 15" 7mm-08 is way more manageable to shoot than a 10" 44mag in a contender was. Than I added a set of Pachmayr grips and its no problem now. Mine also likes the .139gr SST bullets with either  IMR 4064 or Varget. I would go for it you'll love it :)

An Encore 7mm/08 handgun barrel, in my opinion, has less felt recoil than a Contender handgun in 44 Rem. Mag.  I wouldn't want to put any more than about 500 rounds through mine at one siting though.

Dude! Your handle is "Fearless" and you are worried about how much a 7mm-08 recoils?  If you can shoot a 44 mag, you'll be fine.  I have fallen in love with my new 10" Encore...now if the Pa deer will stand still long enough fro me...

COR,
The "Fearless" has more to do with an elk...a BIG bear  :o...and enjoying the elk tenderloins...than recoil!!  I do have a .44 mag in Contender but was looking for something in the Encore with a little more distance capability and that was "pleasant" to shoot.  More practice time on the range = a little better accuracy for me.  Hope the big Pa deer stops for a chat, cup of coffee and some .44 mag lead for dessert!  Good Luck!  Fearless
