Go to Walmart and buy an Outers kit.  It's all you need.

Bore guide and a one piece cleaning rod after that it depends on what you like, Hoppes #9 is as good as any and easy to find I like to use Rem oil or break free for oiling chores. Wipeout foaming cleaner is great stuff, I use it alot. 8)

With all the cleaning stuff I have I went to wall mart bought a tackle box with a big open area in the top and three pull out clear boxes.
I then went to my favorite gun shop with a magic marker and bought stuff and marked it.
In one of the clear boxes I used the dividers and put brushes, the jags, and mops for each caliber in each section. and left one section open for multiple cleaning rods.
In the second one I stuck shotgun stuff with cleaning rods.
in the third I put tools and stuff like tooth brushes, dental picks, and hand tools.
In the top I put the caliber snakes, grease, spray cans, and hoppies oil and No 9
Hope it was helpful.

I went with the Otis System about a year ago. I also use boresnakes on occasion when I want a cleaner barrel at the range after a few rounds.
