S&W Revolver help
« on: August 09, 2003, 02:24:59 AM »
Have an older .22 revolver. Shoots fine single action but when shooting double action it stikes one out of the six rounds too light to fire it.  Sometimes two out of six.

Any suggestions on what I can do to remedy this?  Thanks!!

Near the bottom of the butt you'll see an adjustment screw that puts tension on the long spring that is the hammer spring in a S&W revolver. Increase the tension. Will also increase the double action trigger pull but that's what controls how hard the hammer falls on the primer.

That is possbile buy HIGHLY unlikely with a rimfire. Dirty is a more likely cause.

Winchester did rather recently have a problem that caused these symptoms with some lots of 22 LR. They did acknowledge this, and say that they have taken corrective measures.

The problem ammunition fired reliably in every 22 LR rifle I own, but caused misfires in nine of the eleven 22 LR handguns I own.
