Thanks guys!
I used to shoot everything behind the shoulder and still will when the conditions call for it.
With my old 270 or the newer 270wsm there really wasn't much challenge so I started using different calibers.
First it was a 307 in a Win Model 94 Big Bore, fun but still no big deal.
Then it was a 45-70 in a Win 1886 on open sights.
That took some getting use to.
Those old sights sure cover up a lot of deer at a distance.
Retired it because it was worth to much to take the chance on damageing it.
Then a 45-70 in a BC and it has served me well over the years.
Then a Handi in 45-70.
This also has proved to be a fun gun.
This year it was going to be the 7x57 Handi until the youngest claimed it.
So now it's the 35W, and to put a little more skill in the game I started taking head shots when possible.
Just got tired of having to clean up and/or waste so much meat!
The good thing is that it is either a good shot or a miss, which really makes you concentrate on your shooting skills.
I was very supprised that the 200gr 35 didn't drop any at that distance.
Was also pleasantly supprised at the small amount of damage done.
I was expecting a real mess when I got over to her.
The next one might be a different story, don't know.
We'll see, HOPEFULLY!!
Kind of wanting to take one with my custom Blackhawk I'm having built, if GALLAGER gets it back to me in time to work up a load.
With my two growing boys and my heart problems I live off of deer meat and have for years so there is always room in the freezer for one more.
The worst thing is trying to decide what cal. to use next year! LOL:
