Optimum Smoothbore Barrel Length?
« on: January 23, 2009, 05:10:10 PM »
I recently moved to a shotgun only state so I wanted to get a deerslayer barrel for my ithaca m37 featherlight. However I see that they range in length from 20 to 26 inches. Is shorter or longer better when it comes to shooring slugs from a smoothbore barrel?

if shots are not far by slug standards, length has little effect on performance. I shoot well out to 80 with a 18.5" model87. My typical shots range from 10 - 40 yards.

The longer bar length is handy with sabots if you have a field stand with shot out to 150 and want the range capability.

The short bar is very handy.
