Well it looked like a cannon started it.  Sixty + years ago, I used to marvel at Rube Goldberg's cartoon in the Journal American on Sundays. THAT WAS AMAZING!! Thanks!

The Mythbusters' Rube Goldberg device did include a small cannon.
