Anyone using a corn burner

Couple mths backs I bought a house with a fuel oil furnace. The price of fuel oil scared the crap out of me, So bought a corn burning fireplace insert. This thing keeps the house at 69 degrees on medium. Fill it up once a day, About 50 lbs of corn. The guy I bought the house from spent between $3500 & $4000 a year. Im thinking I LL be spending about half that. Just wondering if anyone else is using one.

Twice a year I attend a hardware show as a vendor. A year ago I purchased a corn burning stove. I live on my family farm so the availability of corn is no problem.
The stove saved me quite a chunck of cash last year. It is not meant to be the sole source of heat but I burn it 23.5 hours a day. It does need quality corn to burn well.

My stove is a "multi fuel" stove. When I am not home my wife mixes 1/4 wood pellets in with the 3/4 corn... burns easier.
There is a drawer for the ash maybe 14" x 14" x 4"  it needs to be emptied about weekly.

Once a day I have to take out the "clinker" that forms at the bottom of the burn pot. Then once evry 2 weeks or so I gotta clean out the ash.  I can burnt 50/50 wood pellets, corn. I dont know if it burns any cleaner. Wood pellets became hard to find around here. I paid $700 for 160 bushels of corn. So I just went with corn. Next year I may look into an add on burner for my furnace, & use the insert for the barn.

Corn burners are pretty popular here in Southern MN, pretty low on ash, efficient, and there is alt of cornsin the area. Just remember to use good clean corn. Here a tip ya don't wanna share with the EPA, sometimes you can find old seed corn to burn in your corn stove for a relativly low price.

we  have 2 trash cans  in the kitchen.......burn  and non-burn
we generate  about 2 small  bags of trash  a  month  that   has to be taken away
i  have  cental  heat   but  no one is  allowed  to turn  it  on
told  my kids since  they were  little     ''if  you cold, get some fire wood''

about  one  snow shovel  scoop  a  week  in  ashes  scattered on  the grass
don't  know  how  i ended  up with a snow shovel  in  Florida

Has anyone tried to burn dried brewers grain in their corn burner? We have a couple of ethonal plants in the area and the brewers grain is $5 a ton before drying

I guess Orville's really does pop up fluffier.
Did anyone get hurt (other than the dog)??

One of my friends has a corn burner in her house and she swears by it.

Are these things pretty much the same as a wood pellet stove??

i put a wood burner in this year, because wood is more plentiful than corn here.   i havent turned on the regular furnace yet, and my house has stayed at 80-85 degrees.
