 Now that is something to have. I heard or read somewhere that after the American Civil War, a lot of the old glass plates were sold to people to use for green house glass. If this is true, what a waste of American history.

I have some glass plates like that, but the subject matter is factories and industrial buildings...maybe from the industrial revolution.  They're in a box somewhere and need some attention.  For display they need some kind of light box.

The abandoned plates were just stacked in a closet that was walled over.  The emulsions were not in good condition.  My brother got involved as he had a dark room & made contact prints...  before they could deteriorate further.   The owner has provided a set of these to RI National Guard, office of the Adjunct General for their future museum.  They are not otherwise displayed & the research is my own. 

You may want to contact a museum or large university and see about getting getting some professional work to conserve them. Or the Rhode Island Historical Society.
