Single stage pressess are, IMHO, the best tool for beginners.
With a couple of exceptions, most makers "top of the line" single stage pressess ARE "mid-range" and they are all very good. Hornady's LnL, Lyman's Crusher, RCBS' Rock Chucker, Redding's Boss, Lee's Classic Cast are ALL tied for tied for second place. They stand close behind Forster's CoAx and Reddings UltraMag, tied for first place, but even then there is very little difference in practice.
Those who would argue for their favorite as "best" would have to bring actual comparitive measurements of the ammo or groups it makes to prove it, not opinion or "it works for me", and they can't do that. (Actually, Lee's Classic Cast has the most helpful user features AND it's the least expensive!)
That said, if you have a good offer on any of them, take it.
