New .22-250 Bolt Action
« on: February 01, 2009, 07:18:25 AM »
Hello all,
I just ordered a Howa 1500 with Hogue overmoulded stock and NikkoSterling 4-10 X42?? scope.  I paid $450 for the whole package in .22-250.  I plan for this to be my new varmint rifle.  It won't be in for a week or so.  Can anyone testify to the accuracy of this rifle and the quality of the scope?  I may or may not keep the scope on this rifle, I do have other rifles that the scope will work on.  I just read a post about the trigger on these not being great but that's just from one person.  I'd like to know about experiences that others have had with this rifle.
Thanks,
Rick

I've tickered with a couple of Howas lately and I think they are a nice and accurate rifle for the price. Both triggers adjusted to under 3lbs with no creep, before that they were terrible(probably 6lbs with lots of creep). The one I shot was a 243 and it done under 1 inch at 100yds with factory ammo. As for the Nikko scopes they seem clear and well built but can't say more because I don't own one. Wish I could be more help, but I think it will be a nice rifle, scope combo.   Dave

I have a vanguard in 257 wby mag. It's made by Howa. It shoots great, sub-moa with my handloads very consistently.

The trigger on mine was a sorry piece of crap. Life's too short to shoot a crappy trigger. I put on a Timney trigger. It now shoots like it should, what a difference a trigger makes. Try yours first, you may have a "good" trigger. If not, swap it for a Timney.

I've never looked through a Nikko scope, so I can't comment on it.
