sierra 25 cal 90gr. hpbt

I was thinking of giving these a try. I was wondering if they are of similar construction as The 85 gr 6mm bullet? Anyone using them and what kind of results are you getting?

These were on sale at Midway a few years ago, I should have bought them all!  In my 25-06 I use them with IMR 4064, great groups.  I think I killed a few groundhogs, but I don't remember anything about bullet performance.  (75 g V-max is my groundhog bullet, now.)

I took the 90 grain Sierras deer hunting, but didn't shoot anything.

There was some debate if they were varmint or deer bullets.  I don't know, but they are very accurate.

Why not check with the folks who actually designed the bullet?  Sierra says the 90 HPBT is a multi-role bullet - extremely accurate at all velocities, a varmint bullet at high velocities but it may be used on medium game from smaller capacity cartridges like the .250-3000 Savage.  The .250 pushes it to 3200 fps in Sierra data.

I have the 257 WBY. I haven't shot the 90gr bullet but would think that it wouldn't be much different than the 100gr bullet witch I have shot. The 100gr bullet is very accurate.
So the 90 should be also.

I have a heavy bbl. 25-06 that will really shoot them. I've only shot paper with them but this is the most accurate bullet I have shot out of this rifle. I load H4831.

I killed a few deer with them out of my 250AI. Every one was a complete pass through and the deer went about 30 yrds or less. I love them.

My truck gun is a 257AI shooting 90gr. Sierra HPBT's at insane velocities!  First, they are extremely accurate.  Secondly, I shoot everything from prairie dogs up to and including mule deer with that load.  Kills everything DEAD!  As in DRT.  It may be my all time favorite antelope gun!

Really? And here I thought that 3750 fps out of my .257 Weatherby was pretty 'normal'.  I guess that is actually an uber-insane velocity.   ;)

The 90HPBT accuracy is 'okay' in the MkV, but the long freebore shoots flat-based 87s a bit better....

When discussing bullets, it's really helpful if we know what type velocities we are talking about...Each bullet is designed to reach it's potential within certain velocity levels...

LS, You shoot a Weatherby?  Lord knows I am so impressed!   ;) ;) ;)  Actually my AI is pretty speedy as well, but can't quite match Roy's .257.  My load, however, is well over book max, but shoots extremely well in my rifle, and I've used that load for many years.

Guess I will have to build a 257 STW, so my rifle can trump your rifle!   ;) ;) ;)  Currently, my only Weatherby is a Model 70!  No plans to change that in the future.

Thanks for all the replies I want to give them a try in my 25 wssm. The 100gr nosler ballistic tip and barnes tsx that I have been shooting has been giving me groups around 1-1.5 " and I just wanted to try and improve upon that plus save a few bucks.
As far as velocity I think I am looking closer to 257 Roberts speeds. This is due to the fact at this point anything that I have loaded to within a 1.5gr of the max powder charge gives sticky bolt lift. I normally would have sold a rifle that has been this finicky but as a lefty I don't get that many shots at differant cartridges.
