why cant a standard handi go mag?
« on: November 12, 2008, 05:14:46 PM »
maximum pressure for a 7mm rem mag is 61000.  maximmum for a 25-06 is 63000.  if a 25-06 has never blown up, cant a 7mm rem mag be perfectly safe?  PLEASE NOTE:  i am a self proclaimed noob when it comes to rifles.  keep that in mind and go easy on me...lol.
I've got to many but never enough!!!!

The mags have a larger .513" case head, the 25-06 is only .470", just too much breech thrust for the SB2 action.

Is that likely the reason there seem to be so many problems with the .500 S&W handis? They have a case head of .526".
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.

There are lots of 500s that don't have problems, but that's likely a big part of the problem, even tho the operating pressure is at a max of about 52kpsi and the fact that it's a straight walled case.

Tim, you need to get another Handi, ;D lets push em for a 480.  I would even get one myself.  Less pressure and smaller case head= another in the gun safe. ;)  DP
