Gore Tex or similar lined clothing advantage.

Try this as it really works.  Have you ever come across a small brook, creek, inlet or shallow lake that you wanted to cross but didn't want to get wet?  Most of us hunting has had this occur at some time or another.  This happened to me in Alaska while deer hunting.  I was wearing a pair of Dry Plus bib pants with boot zips and a pair of leather GoreTex hunting boots as part of my outfit.  I always carry a small rucksack with possibles and survival items too.  In the sack is a partial role of good, sticky duct tape.  I've duct taped my pants tightly around the tops of my boots and literally waded across some small deep creeks without getting too wet.  Admittedly it is not 100% watertight, but the leakage is so small that no discomfort or loss of insulation results after about 5 minutes standing still on the other bank.  I also was using synthetic fleece outer material so the water did not saturate the cloth.  It was a lot more effective than I would have believed if someone had just told me.  By the way, Alaskans never go anywhere without duct tape.  We are famous (infamous) for this habit.

I usually just end up barefoot and depending on the depth, losing some clothes to make sure I dont get wet (I mean, my clothes dont get wet) and then drying off and getting dressed on the other side.  Nothing like a good pack towel.

I do love duct tape....

Well, that's a logical argument.  However, when it is 15* above zero, you just pushed the boat you were traveling in off the beach on an anchor, forgot to tie the anchor line to the boat, the wind is taking the boat away from shore, you have to haul ass down the beach to intercept the boat before it goes into the open ocean, and your radio, survival equipment with the exception on what you carry in your pockets, and you are 25 miles in the wilderness by boat, your pucker power for being so stupid is extreme.  With the clothing at hand, and the hand roll of duct tape, I captured the escapee in shallow water across the small reef into the ocean.  I never felt so small in my life as to do something so stupid.  But it does works.  This has been a discussion factor from those with me for the last ten years.  I cannot seem to live that one down.  I think it was the mother of invention because every one of my hunting partners from that trip bought new hunting clothes that mirrored the capabilities of mine.  I was impressed, they were impressed, and it works.  I still feel the fool, though.

One thing about doing things that make ya feel the fool later is...always be grateful you've been blessed with a "later".Its always a miracle when ya survive a brainfart.Sometimes you're real lucky, and get scars,(or alimony) to brag about later. You came out alive, screw the critics...well done.
