NEW FEDERAL PREMIUM ammo and the HANDI
« on: November 14, 2008, 01:49:08 PM »
I read an interesting article today by BRYCE TOWSLEY in GUN LIST about FEDERAL loading BARNES TIPPED TRIPLE SHOCK X-BULLETS in it's PREMIUM line of ammo.
They are light for caliber bullets with some pretty impressive speeds.
A 300 WIN MAG loaded with 130gr bullets with a velocity of 3500fps out of a 24" barrel.
This bullet is also loaded in the 300wsm with the same velocity.

A 110gr is used it the 270 WIN at 3400fps.
The same bullet out of a 270wsm does 3500fps.

My question is will a HANDI hold up to this much speed?
What are your thoughts Tim?

This ammo should make for a super flat shooter, provided the gun likes it.

Hmmmm

My Speer manual (no 13) shows 300 Win mag w/ 130 gr bullet at 3465 fps with the top velocity load & the 270 Win w/ a 110 gr (sorry no 110 gr) at an even FASTER 3436 fps.

Not sure what the speed has to do with the pressure, as long as you're under max.  The Handi probably won't stand up to the 300 Win Mag or they would have released it (ok, if there had been enough interest).

Go to even lighter bullet weights & I'm sure you can go even faster, if that's what you're all about.

Sorry, I'm not Tim, but it just seemed like an obvious answer to me.

Should have looked at the manuals first.
Just sounded fast when I read it.
