It will have a much better chance with a good mounting system well installed right.  A cheap scope can hold up fairly well if mounted right, and a great one can easily fail if poorly mounted.

So to Keith's point use either Burris signature rings with the inserts or get a quality traditional setup and look into reaming/lapping the rings to relieve stress on the scope and to maximize ring-scope contact area.

Don't assume a gunsmith will know what to do - many either do not or could not be bothered to spend the time.

The recoil of the S&W 500 mag in a Encore barrel is a lot. I have destroyed a few red-dots and a scope with mine.
All mounted correctly. I found the Leupold scopes will hold up, or the Ultra dot sights will hold up to the recoil of the 500 Mag. I also had a Bushnell hold up as well.

I say give it a try, unless you are not willing to take the chance.

My bet is that your Simmons scope will be trashed in less than 100 rounds.  I also HIGHLY DOUBT that Burris signature rings will hold it in place.  If I were you, I would go with SSK Industries 4 ring, 6 screw T'SOB mount and get a scope that won't break (I use a Leupold VX III).

After shooting a 460 & 500 S&W for awhile, a 44 Mag. seems like somewhat of a woosie gun.

If it were mine, I would put a Leupold base and rings on it with a Luepold 2x scope.  Use finger nail polish or 222 loc-tite on the screw threads.  You are good out to 100 yards for any critter in lower 48 which is about the limit of the 500 S&W anyway.  This is set up I have on a 260 Rem, 30 Bower Alaskan, 7mm Bower, 30-30, and 7x30 waters.  No problems to date with any of them.  (get the pointed bars or similar device and make sure your rings are aligned.)

The 270 Winchester has a LOT LESS recoil than a 500 S&W Mag.

I have never used 4 rings on any of my hand cannons. I have a 410 GNR 510 GNR 500 Mag 308 Win 475 Linebaugh and a 375 H&H in Encore handguns, not one has ever needed over 2 rings.  I have also just used 2 rings on my 454 Casull, 480 Ruger and S&W 460 Mag Encore barrels that I have sold, again not on problem with 2 rings.  My personal opinion it is just another gimmick to sell more rings, or a fashion statement. If a scope is mounted correctly, 2 rings are more the safecent.

My bet is the same.  The scope goes south after a box or two of rounds.  If you can take the eye relief, a Bushnell 3200 handgun scope (the elite, not trophy) will take a great deal of punishment.  Right now you can pick up one off of some of the forums cheap if they are the firefly model.  They sold for around 165 on a recent sale and some people did not like them, I think, because of the firefly recticle.  I bought one for my ruger 44 hunter and I am extremely pleased with it.  I never have had an elite model go bad.  I am sure some do, but they are pretty tough.  I saw one the other day for $125 I think.  The signature rings from burris will hold it in my experience if your base is solid and does not flex.
