Anyone familiar with the "4x4" models?
« on: November 11, 2008, 03:46:51 AM »
I've been kicking around the idea of another savage bolt 223.  I've owned a 12FV & a 12BVSS and they both shot incredibly well.  I don't think I'd want another rifle as long as they are, and I keep seeing a "4x4" model I see online.  It's basically a 10fp or 12fv in 223 with a 20" barrel instead of the 26" barrel.  Beyond the barrel length it's the same gun.

I've never seen these in the savage catalog and was curious if anyone was familiar with them?

I've seen them. It must of been a special run Savage did. It says "4x4" on the bolt, but the rest of the gun is a regular 10fp, only a shorter barrel. They also have one that says "tactical" on the bolt.

Dont know why it would say 4x4, or what it stands for ??? I definately wouldnt pay anymore than a normal 10fp for it though.

The 10fp comes in either a 20" or a 24" barrel, as opposed to the 12fv, 12bvss, and 12vlp with 26" barrels.

I think the 4x4 is supposed to mean it's a truck gun, but I'm not really sure about that either.

I had one of the 10FP rifle with a 20" barrel in .308.  Compact and good in tight areas, still had more than enough barrel weight to make it stable.  Jumped a bit more off the rest than a standard FP.  I ended up selling it to an officer in a small town where the force had to outfit themselves with tacitcal gear for their "SWAT" type team.  He put a Super Sniper 10x scope on it, and he's the Designated Marksman on his force (they don't call them snipers).

It was a special run done for one of the big distributors; I don't remember which one. Ask on Savageshooters.
