Is there anywhere in TN a person can hunt hogs on public land?

Been wanting to drop one of them thangs and just don't want to do the "game farm" canned hunt stuff.

Yes. Over in the eastern part of the state there is a National Forest (I have no clue the name) that surrounds land owned by Telico Junction Lodge. They catch their hogs in traps on that public land to release in their enclosure for hunting. I think really any public land in eastern TN is likely to have hogs.

they would need a permit from twra or the fed to trap any hogs on public land,i dont think twra would allow it but the feds might.tellico plains area has some hogs but its only open during big game seasons.i shot 1 there many years ago on a early muzzleloader hunt.they have the first MZloader hunt in the state,normaly the first week in oct.this is in the cherokee national forest,mike243

Yes, there are hogs in the Cherokee National Forest, Polk county, Monroe county.

The country is rugged and most hunt over dogs.

Big South Fork also has hogs.  We've been trying to plan a graybeard hunt for the last several years but everyone bails out at the last minute.

Big South Fork is open from the middle of Jan. thru the end of Feb.

They might have had one but the way they did it they likely didn't legally need one. They have a fence around their land and where they place the traps are on their side of that fence with a hole cut into the fence. The traps are baited with corn and the hogs just come off the National Forest land thru the hole in the fence and into the trap to be caught.

Since technically the hogs are on their private land when caught I suspect a permit wouldn't be needed even tho they were on NF land prior to stepping thru that hole in the fence into the trap.

I didn't know about this TN thing. You can hunt hogs on Catoosa WMA, Big South Fork national park (Jan/Feb) As Greybeard said pretty much any WMA in the East or the plateau will have some hogs.
We have a 953 acre lease on the plateau which is crawling with hogs. We can hunt them 365 days a year, they are classed as feral hogs. If somebody wants to come up with me, just let me know. We want to reduce their numbers for deer management.
