Okay better scope question.
« on: November 17, 2008, 01:23:13 PM »
What scope would you use for following?

.308 win.  I usually don't shoot past 300 yards.  450 maybe.  Going to use for Elk and Deer
.243 win. I have for deer, have shot 450 yards to kill deer.  Also use 58 grain bullet for coyotes and future wolfs, when they become open to hunt.
.204 Many ground squires and varmints.  Maybe coyotes.

I did have BSA on these but zero would move when shooting.  Mil Dot 4X16X40 and 6X24X40.  Would like higher power on .243 and .204 take long range shots at small targets.  .308 will be for Big game.

P.S. I not Mr. Money Bags.

How much are you wanting to spend on them?  Best value for the dollar is probably the Mueller APV 4.5-14x40 for around $120 give or take.  It would be great on the .243 and .204, unless you want more high end power.  I find 14x is plenty for any shooting that I've going to do out to 400 yds or more.  For the .308 a plain jane 3-9x40 or something similar is more than enough for deer and elk out to 500 yds.

Ditto!!  ;) The APV can be had for $115 shipped from Mizzou Mule, it would work equally well on the 308, but for big game, a 3-9x or 2-7x is all you need, I'm partial to the Nikon Prostaff, I have several of them, they work very well.  ;)

Another vote for the Mueller APV. If it hold zero on a Mosin Nagant, then it's a good tough scope.  Clear glass and repeatable adjustments at @$120...What more can you ask for?
