Working on a big bowie(damascus) 1/4" Plan to use nickel silver for guard. I have a piece of fossil walrus tusk that has started to crystalize in center. I have never worked any of it before, will it work like regular ivory?

Retired Military, 21 years US Navy Seabees started making knives about 5 years ago. Really like it alot. Build mostly hunters & skinning knives with a few big bowies. Logo is grizzly paw.

Been trying to post to this for three days; freaking system wasn't having any of it.
Never worked the stuff; too rich for the knives I build. However intend to put some on a personal knife for myself one of these days. That way I'll know it gets used instead of settin in some collection somewhere gatherin dust. Whenever I have a question about something for knifemaking, I head for

. You might post that question under the "fit and finish" forum. Be curious what kind of answer you get from any source.
