For me to type up on what will help you getting started would take me for ever to get done. My hunt and peck makes my mind wander and I for get what I'm saying

This man lives shooting the PP bullets, he knows what he is talking about not repeating what he read from people that most likely never loaded a PP round.
It makes no difference as far as the bases go for accuracy I my self prefer the cup base but that is just my liking.
It makes no difference as far as legal for the black powder matches, no copper jackets. Some informal matches do allow gas checks but not many.
I would not lube a patch for the reason that the patch has a good chance to not come off as it leaves the bore and it will give you problems down range.
You having a Ruger #1-#2 ?? I would not patch it to groove diameter, patch it to bore or 1 or 2 thousands under or you will take up most of your case seating the bullet and not enough room for the black powder if that is what you figure on using in that Ruger. You will have to deep seat that bullet so you can get it chambered if it is patched to .458. The farther the bullet is past the case mouth the better chance the accuracy will be.
It makes no difference if your using black or smokeless what the diameter of the patched bullet is, it will still obtrude to fill the groove.
Here is a place for the PP mould, I have six from them and they are as good as the bullets I swage.
