Temperature effects of polymer framed guns, how much heat?
« on: August 10, 2009, 03:23:16 PM »
I was wondering the other day on just how much heat from the local environment during summer will a polymer framed gun tolerate before they melt or get soft.  I once left a plastic model airplane in the back window of a closed up Chevy when I was a kid during the summer in Pennsylvania, and after a few hours it was sagging.

Places like Arizona and Texas can get hot, what if you left your Glock or Springfield XD-9 on the dashboard in a closed car in the hot sun, or in the trunk, would it get damaged?  I figured that this would be a good police or hunter question.

Thanks.

glocks and sigs are used in desert countrys and ive never heard of heat hurting a single one of them so i doubt if your going to hurt on in the US unless you put it in an oven.

Your biggest concern is if the ammunition is also hot.  Pressures will increase greatly.
