120 grn Barnes TSX in 6.5x55
« on: November 22, 2008, 04:47:41 PM »
I have had excellent results Barnes TSX 120 grn in a 6.5x55 on both 150 lb. whitetail and a 250 lb. Mule Deer.  Excellent exit holes and dramatic damage in the engine room.  Less than 10 yard tracking for both.  This has become my go to load.  Also very accurate.  Buckfever

Glad to hear it. I have never brought nor tried any Barnes bullets and in the 6.5x55 the Speer 120 grain Flat based bullet would likely, more than likely  ;D, give the same results and I have been very pleased with both it's performance on game and accuracy.

Since the TSX bullet is copper with no core, it will be longer than a bullet with a lead core. The Speer bear claw bullets do have a lot of copper (solid copper base) with a little lead in the forward part of the bullet. The 120 Spitzer is a hot core bullet that would have a lead core. Bullet accuracy would depend on individual rifles. They all seem to like some thing different. :( Hot Core Speer bullets (a bonded bullet) hold together well and should perform OK on big game animals as the Barnes TSX should. I think it comes down to which one shoots the best in your rifle.
