Just about every one I know has Semi-auto firearms,
I only know 2 who have Full Automatics.
A very, very small percentage of the shooters in the U.S. actually
have Full Auto Firearms. They are so costly that most of the people who have them
are collectors who make lots more a year than I do with my meager salary.
The Very Bias and anti - gun media we have
would really make people think that it is still like the WILD west
here in the United States. People shooting everything up,
Duals in the streets..That simply is not the case.
A full auto is rather exciting to shoot, It is very wasteful of ammunition,
And in my opinion is not very practical for Civilians. Do not get me wrong,
I am not saying that Civilians should not own them, Just that they are not practical.
Here is something that may be of interest to you though....
The Media here (CNN) reported last week that "Homegrown" terrorists are
being trained in CANADA! Are you all hiding something ;)

SSumner,
be careful when you say things like "they're not practical".
That has been used in attempts to ban inexpensive, small handguns; Rifles and shotguns with large magazines and a host of other firearms.

I am sure that those who enjoy shooting the full auto guns would argue the point - just because something isn't practical to me doesn't mean that everyone feels the same way.

If that were the case there would be very few firearms larger than 30-'06 in rifles or 357 magnum in pistols. That my friend would be a very boring world.

There's lots of Un-American activities going on up here! *Main one is being Canadian, that is 'un-American'  ;D I don't know where they keep the black helicopters and thousands of PRC soldiers though. I'll look behind the bushes in the park tomorrow for you! :P

Seriously, I wish we could get a lot of guns up here that you take for granted in the 'states, but it just is not the way things are anymore. We can all thank Kim Campbell, entryist politician and our prime-minister for about 5 minutes in the 90's. I have come to the conclusion if we ever need to get things done, we'll have to use what's available. The Garand is getting to be even more popular here,  probably due to the fact it can get the job done with class. I read a well-known survivalist in the USA's quote, which goes something like this: " a .38 for the bedroom, a shotgun for the yard, a Garand for reaching out, you don't need any more" It was Kurt Saxon. ;)

However, I've got this crazy Idea to get a .458 Lott in the Ruger #1. Might be a good substitue for a .50 BMG, which is not practical to reload for, due to a US State Department ruling. The supply for .50 BMG components is heavily curtailed, making the stuff EXPENSIVE when it's found. Sort of like, we can charge what we want due to the restricted supply.

I have shot full auto on a few occasions but the Army sure knows how to take the fun out of shooting a m16 full auto. You had to attach a bipod, shoot in the prone postion, you had a big guy practily sitting on you arse in case you had a runaway, or just fliped you lid! But shooting a M2 50 cal,, they could not take the fun out of that. Nothing like holding that butterfly down and letting it go. in seconds you are following the tracers to target. wow...as far as civilian ownership.. it costs several thousand dollars to get an entry level full auto in sub calibers. if you want a m16 well,, about 20 grand..  God bless Ronald Regan but the 1986 machine gun ban was... and is wrong. Machine guns owned by persons willing to go thru the checks are not a problem. The ban on new manafacture and importation has moved the guns into the relm of the rich! For Us peasents a semi auto.. is all we can hope for. Though ironicly.. unless you have a well oiled infastructure of ammo suppy, than a semi is the way to. In vietnam,,  Millions of rounds hit the dirt and nothing else. It is best to treat every round as if it were you last. because in full auto,, that senerio can come pretty darn quickly! If you must have the exsperiance. you can travel to the US and go to a machine gun shoot. you rent the gun and buy you ammo,, and get to shoot,, hopefuly well supervised by trained professionals.
