new barrel won't fire on my frame
« on: November 21, 2008, 07:51:54 PM »
I put a new barrel(used but new to me) on my frame today. It feels like it locks up tight but when you cock it and pull the trigger the hammer won't fall all the way to touch the frame. This frame works fine with other barrels.

The only difference I can see is my other barrels have split locking bolts. This one is solid.

This is a old style, easy open, contender frame. This is set up as a carbine as I don't shoot contender pistols any more. I'm thinking I need to get a set of split locking bolts. Anyone that can guide me on this.

Thanks for the help, Byron

I don't own or shoot a Contender.   Having confessed that, you say you have an older frame, so are you trying to shoot it with a G2 barrel?   From what I hear they are not compatible but heard the G2 frame will shoot the older barrels.

There is no compatibility problem.  Close the gun briskly and see if it locks up and fires.  If not you may have to polish the tops of the locking bolt a little to get enough engagement to allow the gun to fire.  I have had to do that on several barrels.  Your best bet is to use the split bolts on all your barrels. it seems to be a better design.  But I have a few of the one piece design and have them working.
