Mountain rifle? Value?
« on: November 18, 2008, 09:58:47 AM »
Gentlemen, I need help with identification and value of the following rifle:
1986 (I think), Rem. 700 Mountain Rifle, 30-06, satin blued tapered/pencil barrel, walnut stock, 6.5 lbs, excellent shape.  Serial #B6754927

1.   Is it a Mountain Rifle?
2.   Was it made in 1986?
3.    Is $475 a fair price?

Thanks for any help you can give.

To answer question one I'd need to see a photo. But yes the timing sounds correct for it to have been an original mountain rifle. Those came in .270 Winchester, .280 Remington and .30-06 and they came out some time in the mid 80s time frame. Mine was a .270 and I sure wish I'd kept it.

Price depends on condition really. If it's super nice near mint likely worth a bit more and if ragged out something less. I saw one at a gun show awhile back for $400 but it was a dog and to me barely worth $250 if even that.

If in excellent shape, as you describe, $475 sounds fair, IMO.

Buy it if it is in excellent condition.
