209 VS #11 help please!
« on: November 22, 2008, 02:23:43 PM »
Hey guys and gals.   Question:   Will a 209 primer system give different performance in regards tp POI vs a #11 cap?     I live in a state now that allows the use of a 209.  My #11 get finicky in extreme cold weather and I'd like something more reliable, but haven't tested the 209 yet to see if it changes anything.   Right now I'm shooting 80gr of 777 behind a Lee R.E.A.L bullet and it holds a good 1 1/2in group at 100.  Just looking for minute of game vs minute of angle here and wondering if this primer swap will throw things out of whack or I'd still be good with my current load and the 209.    Thanks all.

Most likely, yes, it will change your point of impact.  No telling for sure unless you go out and shoot it.

The only thing that will be able to tell you for sure is that 209 primer, your rifle, and your load. I would say it would change it significantly, you might get some more velocity, and even have to reduce your powder charge to get the same accuracy.

There is only one way to know for sure.

I agree with Busta... I have found that almost anything you change has some effect...All guns are individual's best to take them and shoot them every time you change something

Well, looks like theres no magical way around it.  Normally, I'd not have a problem going shooting, but I just moved up here to Groton CT and the ranges up here are drinking clubs with a dirt berm to shoot into.  Not much shooting going on and the firing locations/lines/ ranges really stink, oh, and they're all private and cost a couple hundred dollars to be a "member"  so I gotta find a range.  OK, rant off.  I appreciate the info fellas.
