S&W md10-5

Got a 38 md 10-5 ( stamped on the inside when you drop the cylinder open) --- also has 38 sw special CTG on the barrel. Is 10-5 or CTG or both the model ??  ???

Yours is a Model 10, the Military and Police model.  The -5 means there were various engineering improvements on the basic model 10.

The .38 S&W Special cartridge (CTG) is the caliber.

Congratulations! I have a 10-5 and it is a wonderfully accurate gun. I hated the grips and got a great pair of cocobolo presentation grips for only $29.99 at CDNN.

Just put some money down on a Model 10-5 snubby today.  The 10-5 was made from the early 60s through the 70s, if I recall.  If the serial number begins with "C" it's 1967 or earlier.

Ninety-eight percent blue, original grips, tighter than ... well ... a drum.  I probably paid too much, but I don't see many forty-year-old revolvers in such good shape.

I have a pre model 10;M&P.  Very accurate and buttery smooth.
