UP TO WHAT CAL. HAVE YOU FOKES PUT A RIFLE SCOPE ON A PISTOL WITH OUT GIVING YOURSELF A THIRD EYEBROW???

I have yet been able to shoot a 3 shot sub 1" group at 100 yards ...........on any deer!!!!!!

I haven't done it at all, but a lot of silhouette shooters use rifle-scoped 32-20 contenders.  I've heard of guys trying it with 30-30s with the result of getting unsighty blood stains on their baseball caps, and wrecking their glasses. Must be in the middle somewhere.  I wouldn't do it with a 10" 221 fireball barrel using full-power loads. There's enough recoil there to tap you a bit.

14" .223, but i have to use loads with 40gr nosler bt's and blue dot powder to reduce recoil enough for it to work. thats ok by me, i love the blue dot, 40gr nosler load. i got whacked a couple times with heavier bullet loads. my blue dot load chronographed 3150fps, so it'll perform fine. :grin:

8 x 24 Tasco on a Super 14, in .222 Rem.  Being able to see the target made all the difference.  Best 5 shot group was .390".  Most groups stay under .600".  Using IMR4895 and 40gr Berger bullets.

Well right now i have rifle scopes on my 22 hornet,7mm supermag and 6.5 tcu.I have not been hit yet but it is always in the back of mine mind.The 22 hornet has a 3x9 tasco the other two have old Weaver 4x,steel tube model K5  scopes that have a pretty good eye relief.

I have used a 6.5-20 Leupold set on 20x on a 284 Win. barrel both for prarie dog shooting and bench shooting out to 660 yards.  140 bullet with a MV of 2750 f.p.s.

i would like to hear how you do it. maybe because of the leupold eye relief? or just back away and peer thru a smaller opening? i know my .223 contender is about as much as i can get away with, and still have to use the reduced recoil load. although that load is all i'll likely need.

First, the  Leupold rifle scopes (High Mag. variables) have a longer eye-relief than any given scope in it's class.  A little difference makes a big difference here.  Second, I start with a full field of view and then back off to where I am not seeing a full field of view.  For PD shooting or target shooting this style is not a problem.  In fact, I got to where I could get set-up quickly for shots the more I shot.  It does change the way you handle the gun on the bench since at first you are very close to the scope's ocular then back off.  Adjusting for this will take some experimenting on your part.  Depending on your cartridge you can have someone watch the amount of movement your scope has toward your face and adjust accordingly (be on the safe side though).  Using this type of scope is not for beginners when using heavy kickers in my opinion.  There is a natural desire or tendency to want to see a fuller or full field of view and that can get you into trouble quickly.  Hope this describes what I am doing.  if not ask away and I will try to answer better.

XPHunter,

What mounts are you using to get enough clearance for the big bell on the Leupold scope?  I just bought a 22-250 barrel, and I want to stick a rifle scope on it.  Your help will be appreciated.

This is not the 50mm obj. lens.  I use medium Burris Base and Rings.  Note--Mine is on a center-grip XP-100 15 7/8 barrel (not a bull barrel).  If you want to see a pic of the Xp with the Leupold mounted on it you can go to this web page http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Specialty_Pistols/
You will have to sign up to see the pics (once you are signed up go to the pictures and look under the "Alliance" heading), but it is a good group of guys on this forum.  My XP has a greenish tint on the stock and will notice the big scope.  In one of the pics I had just split a bullet on a piece of 3 inch angle iron @ 660 yards.  Funny though, no one at the clinic would shoot my 284 with that Leupold on there!  You will see another pic of me with the 284 XP @ 500 meters on a ram with a 2-shot group.  The reason there are not more shots is because the second one knocked it down.  I'm in the process of switching over to the Burris rings with the inserts so I can easily put minutes into my mounts for long range shooting.

How many grains of Blue Dot do you use. I've been experimenting and have a pretty mild load that is very accurate, but not near the velocity that you are getting. My load is 11.8 grains with the 40 gr Nosler BT. Pretty accurate and very pleasant to shoot. Just curious about your powder charge. Thanks in advance.

I have 6-18X rifle scopes on my Bullberry 17 Mach IV and my Bullberry 222 (both 16.25" barrels) These barrels do not have muzzle brakes. Works great on varmints!

I have a 6-24 Burris rifle scope on a muzzle braked 222 Mag Ackley that works great also. But without the muzzle brake it might get exciting.

The way I use these rifle scope on the TC is, get up close to the scope to find the target, then lean back from the scope and fire. At this point you are looking through a mighty small black hole to see your target, but from a benchrest set up it works fine.

It sure is nice to know that there is a group of guys using rifle scopes in unique ways.  I have also used a 6-24 B&L on my 260 Remington & 22-250AI barrels on my MOA Maximum.  This was bench shooting only though.  Prefer the Leupold over the B&L any day after using both.
