one and done - PA buck season

  woke up at 5 am checked the weather, had some hot coco and a spam sandwich. put on the orange camo overalls and coat and picked out the 270 handi for a trip to the rainy woods.   made it a friends 185 acre farm at about 610 and walked over the hill to a nice spot over looking 3 fields with a wooded gut between them about 60 yards down hill and only 40 yards wide.   about 655  2 hot does came trotting thru the gut from the far field about 80 yards to the north of my posted ground blind  it was just light enough to see the deer but was unsure of any antlers at that point - hold your fire.    they moved about 150 yards out into the north field and just stop and milled around for about 20 min - always looking to the east where they had come from.   well it kept getting lighter and now i see they are does - no shot this week  buck only for now.  well about 710 i see movement thru the trees in the far field where the does came from and here come Mr buck, nose to the ground and trotting right along without a care in the world but the thought of 2 hot does.   BIG MISTAKE    no shot thru the trees   scope him out  and wait    check the does   still there   waiting on the buck i bet   just like a couple of women  the buck drops into the gut and out of sight for a min.    i see him come out of the gut at about 115 yards and broadside at the same time he sees the does and stops cold head high and sniffing them    center the crosshairs on the front shoulder and BANG at the shot he gave NO reaction and ran in a small 30 yard circle ending where he started.  i am spending this time reloading with another 115 gr rem reduced recoil core lok and when he Mr buck stopped and looked at the does - still there also - i put a second  round into his chest   now Mr buck decides to leave and makes it about 30 yards into the gut before he disappears from sight.    i reload again and keep a eye into the bottom of the gut below me and in the far field to spot Mr buck - no luck    give him 10 min to bleed and then walk to the point impact where i find good blood sign and follow the trail into the gut   and there is Mr buck piles up about 40 yards from point of impact and just 10 yards from where i lost sight of him.    2 good shots first left side impact thru and thru double lung shot second entered right shoulder and exited left side approx 3 inches behind the last rib both good kill shots and Mr buck has a beautiful white 8 point rack about 17 inches wide and 11 in tall    after field dressing and transport to the butcher he went 166 lbs   that is going to be some sweet bologna and burger anyone want to come over for grilled backstrap with onions

My wife is from McKeesport, outside of Pittsburg. I have been hunting in PA with my brother in law and when we went to Clearfield I had never seen so many deer in one place...<><....
