357 magnum pressure
« on: November 29, 2008, 03:52:59 AM »
i am looking at my catalog and i see combos...357/20 gauge and 44 mag/12 gauge, and am reading the part about how these are SB1 frames and no other centerfires may be fitted to these frames....if a SB1 frame(basically a shotgun frame) can handle standard 357 mag loads(and pressures) does that mean i could fit a 357 barrel to my '79 vintage Topper frame,or not?I am in no way trying to advocate any mismatch of reciever to cartridge, just trying to follow the logic in this......

My culled down Handi's are the 45-70, and then I have a few others to keep it company...357 Mag/Max. .45 LC/.454 Casull Carbine, .243 Ultra, and 20 gauge Tracker II.

My Modern Guns 12th Edition shows the H&R 158 Topper was available from the factory chambered in...
.410, 20 gauge, .22 Hornet, 30-30, .357 Mag., 44 Mag.
Listed as being made from the early 60's to the mid 80's.
It also states that the magnum calibers were not added until 1982

thanks guys...i have no intention of fitting a 357 barrel to said frame, i could understand some folks doing it though...thinking "if H+R does it i don't see why i can't".....i am thinking about getting a 357 barrel and fitting it to my SB2 frame....and a 30-30...
