...I had a chance to handle one only, lighter than it appears in a Medallion 30-06 example. I like the stock configuration, the catalog photos do not do it justice.
The stock foresection is handfilling wide with nice full checkering and scalloped areas just under the barrel for fingers. The grip area has a swell on the right filling my hand with my finger tip falling naturally at the trigger. The wood area around the action is nicely rounded and easy to to hold in one hand, a little fatter than a typical flat sided stock..
The safety is a two position tang version though the bolt has a button allowing cycling in the safe position. Bluing is first rate. I have not read said about these 3 lug actions though I have not talked to anyone who has ever had an issue with reliability.
I like their detachable magazine version, it's release is in front and the magazine pivots down but does not drop out. It needs to be pulled out of the opening, very little effort needed, but you will not have to worry about it inadvertently falling out if the catch is hit. The polymer mag does not stagger rounds but fed straight in, much like Steyr's I have.
My unscientific throw-it-up-to-the-shoulder test shows me Browning built a nicely balanced rifle with their typical great gloss finish on nice wood. The recoil pad is one of those new technology soft-absorb versions and would seem to be a good match for a 30.06. I would scope it in a good 2.5x8 scope, the balance would be unaffected.
I would have to be careful how I throw it around in a hunt because it looks so nice. This is my primary gripe about any rifle that looks so good, almost like jewelry but this appears to be a well made, well designed Browning.
