Tight Spot in 357
« on: November 30, 2008, 12:00:21 PM »
Hello all,

I read here often. but have rarely posted. I recently bought a new handi in 357 and plan to shoot cast bullets through it. Well, I slugged the bore yesterday, using a soft lead wadcutter bullet. I drove it in through the breech and after the first couple of inches it almost fell the rest of the way through without any pressure.

Question: is this common? and, do you think that a few fire lapping rounds would eliminate this tight spot?

Thanks for any wisdom that can be shared.

hello parson48, my 45-70 barrel is the same way and it is very accurate. I have shot several sub  MOA groups with it. I have read somewhere about another Handi having a tight bore just ahead of the chamber.
I would just shoot it and see how it performs before I worried about it.

GOOD SHOOTING!

Every H&R bore that I've ever slugged has been ~.0005" bigger at the muzzle, they still shoot just fine with properly sized cast or jacketed bullets.  ;)

I appreciate the comments. I've shot a few 125 gr. and 158 gr. jacketed bullets with fair accuracy. I'll give it a try with some cast that drop at about .359 from my Lee mold and see how they shoot.

This is a great site with much useful info.
