Cass Calls, please share your experiances.
« on: December 15, 2008, 12:52:37 PM »
Ok, I got curious about the little call with the little price. I have been seeing Cass calls at all the sporting goods stores. I finally asked a sales person if it worked and he said he was calling and a cougar snuck up behind him. I took it to mean that it worked so I bought one. Then I saw another with different sounds on it. I ordered it from Cabelas along with a speaker and a 25 foot speaker wire that came with it. I went out and tried two sets. Both areas had fresh coyote sign. I never saw a coyote but did get some interest from an eagle.
I got to thinking, there has to be a ton of Cass callers in use by now.
Before I spend a lot of time setting in the woods with this thing, I would love to hear from other users. Tips, tricks, success, ECT.
Please share, Thanks, Ken

I have one of the lil pocket sized ones,,, sounds aren't bad, just not a lot of volume for the big woods. In a "perfect setup" it should work as planned, but how often do the critters cooperate?  Good luck with your hunting.
btw....my 2 yr old grandson loves the Cass (and my mouth calls) for tormenting the family Lab. for that,, they all work as supposed to!!

243tom, I too tried it on a family pet. I figured that an animal would know a realistic sound from a fake. The kitten distress nearly gave my cat a fit. Had to turn it off quickly. After calming the cat some, I had to calm the wife. If it works this good on Coyotes, I will be happy.  8)

Hopefully I will have something to share soon, as I'll be using a Cass Creek e-caller.  Tried to get out this evening but there is way to much ice on the roads right now.

I like the cass creek caller and it has worked very well for me. It really needs a mute button on the handheld unit, because if you are not really sharp, the coyotes find you before you see them!

For about the same money you can buy a handmade mouthcall that even sounds like a real bunny in distress. The CassCreek callers I've heard sound like those old record players we had in the early sixties.
