Don't know what might happen later but.
« on: March 22, 2009, 03:42:40 PM »
I just had dinner, It consisted of some susage from a pig I had butchered less than two weeks ago, Eggs still warm from the hen house and some milk from Buttercup (no kiddin thats the cows name) taken in this morning and some peach preserves put up last fall. I think I need to learn how to make bread next, Life still good now. Things are gonna have to get real bad before I go hungry. :D

Sounds good Bob, its the way it was meant to be! dont have a "Buttercup" yet   ;D  but working that way, startin' to fence for goats soon and will be be getting a couple a calfs soon!

Used to shake mayonaise jars with cream to make butter for my old grand ma when i was a kid, we used to do that while watchin tv on Saturday mornings, it was the only way we could stay inside.

Saturday is bread day by the way!  ;)

Oldshooter the older I get the more I try to remember what Granpa tought me. I don't care much for goats milk but man thats some fine cheese the Lady I room with makes, She has three goats. Buttercup should be calving soon, If its a bull he's gonna be dinner this fall, Jersey bulls don't bring much at market but they eat just fine. Got some lettuce and onion sets out and the taters will be going in soon. Mater seeds are sitting in the window waiting to sprout. Boys I think spring is apon us. :)

Bob,
The only thing i can tell you about making bread is get a didgital scale.
While making sausage and cooking is like art work and a little extra salt or pepper is not a bad thing.
Baking is a science project and if you have too much of something you are not going to get what you started out to make.
Flour weighs differently depending os how long it sits and such.
A coup of flour can weigh a little as 6 oz or as much a 12 oz.
Get a bread book.  A board,a big bowl, some yeast, an oven thermometer, and a basket with some tea towels and you are all set to start baking.
good luck.
Or you can get one of the bread machines and follow the directions.  but I have killed three of those things making other than the mix stuff.  One was before I got the scale.

Bob, I'd eat breakfast at your house any day of the week. Not that you're inviting me or anything, I'm just saying... ;)

That's why yer healin' up so good!  All that good food and good livin'.  If it's a bull, put a band on his sack and he will drop em and fatten up better and get some good marbleing in the meat.  Just make sure both nuts are down good and keep an eye on him for half an hour to make sure he doesn't stay humped up.  If you don't have the banding tool, see if one of the neighbors do or have the vet do it.  DP
