Sounds like your dept. spares no expense on your health and well being. Lets hope that thirty years from now you've never needed to carry at all.

you get a $2300 hand gun and I got an old m16A1 with a ruptured gas tube that would of course only shoot 1 round and pull the charging handle. After all , i was only expected to repel a Soviet Invasion Through western Europe. I guess I was not that important! I'm glad MA, Duce worked flawless.  Seriously, I wonder what 2300 bucks really purchases, I expect a police/ military weapon to be accurate and reliable but 2,300 bucks. seems excessive for a service weapon.  very excessive. Race guns are in this price range.

Sounds like a private purchase to me. Some departments have a list of approved handguns from which to choose if you don't want to carry the issue weapon.  You just pick one from that list and buy your own. Can't imagine a county agency in WV spending $2300 a copy for a duty weapon. (Or any other agency for that matter)

Maybe the info wasn't correct.

An all stainless steel Sig  with night sights isn't a custom gun.  They are commecially available as "stock guns.

http://www.sigsauer.com/Products/ShowCatalogProductDetails.aspx?categoryid=7&productid=169

Dealer list is under $1300, and they can be had for much less than that if you look.  That's not cheap, but it's not $2300 either.

I'm not saying the pistol wasn't custom, but since the original poster, and user of the Sig 226 stainless didn't know that the firearm was available "over the counter" in that format, it wouldn't surprise me if someone told him a "great story" to make a fine pistol seem more special.  Maybe the person who told the new deputy didn't know the true story either.

They are fine pistols.  I have two Sig 220ST (stainless) in 45 acp.  Beauties.  Both totally stock, and both very accurate, and 100% reliable.  Both of mine were well under $700 each.

Great to hear from you Preachman! Know you're proud of your sons. Still puzzling over a $1300 duty issue pistol. Hard to imagine a small county agency with that kind of money!!! Usually low bid fills the holsters! God's speed to your sons.
