Used Rem 1100 20ga LT
« on: August 20, 2003, 04:36:47 PM »
A local gunshop has an 1100 Rem 20ga LT w/ 28" VR Rem Choke barrel. It has the hi gloss stock, with a few dings/dents and one Rem Choke. Price is $345.00. I have only owned the 870's in 12 and 20ga's. If I bought the 1100 does it have any of the fail to feed/fail to eject light game load problems like the 11-87's? The 1100 has a 2 3/4" chamber only. My petite wife might enjoy shooting the birds that don't bleed and die or that you clean. Any opinions? Experiences?? Thanks,

Randy

The LT-20 should work reliably with any 2 3/4" ammo you feed it.  The problem with the 11-87's is they are primarily set up for 3" Magnum loads, so shooting the light loads does not generate high enough port pressure.  The valve business for relieving excess presure works, but does not do much for the pressure from a light load.  It works better than the 1100 Magnums would do with 2 3/4 inch shells, but is still not perfect.  The Trap and Skeet versions of the 11-87's don't have the excess pressure valve, acknowledging they need all the pressure the target shell generates for reliable action.

I onwd  aLt20 for several years and shot light loads and never had a problem.  It is a great rifle and I think balances out much better than the 1187.  Price seems about rigth
