New to me MK-85
« on: December 14, 2008, 04:39:24 AM »
I bought this at the gunshow for $100.00  I added a new Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32, Weaver rings & bases, and a sling off an NEF Turkey Gun.  Total investment including new scope & mounts is less than $200.00.

The MK-85 was my first step into the world of modern muzzleloading. Quality Green Mountain barrel, Timney trigger, and good fit & finish made the MK-85 an attractive choice.  The rifle proved to be very accurate and a pleasure to shoot. I had exceptional accuracy with 100gr (V) of loose 777 and a 300gr Hornady XTP. I used the 209 conversion plunger for this set-up.

The only down side to the rifle was the time and effort needed to clean the rifle after each session.

At $100 you got a great deal - Enjoy

You did very well. It's amazing a rifle that shoots as it does. Does not have any resale value. I still have my first MK-85 SS Predator, that will shoot under an inch consistently. Also have the Knight Master Hunter w/TH Laminated stock. I have been using BH-209 powder terrific stuff. But I Hunt with my Savage Smokeless ML'er. Don't have toclean it till the season is over. Lou
