Got my 1st BP rifle deer with a CVA MagBolt...
« on: December 03, 2008, 09:24:46 AM »
I know it is one of the cheapest BP rifles but it does the job. Glad I added the red fiber optic front site (highly recommended if your is black on black).

Anyway long story short. Button buck @50 yards with the sun setting. 195g  .45cal Powerbelt with 2x50gr 777 Pellets.. He dropped where he was shot, clean pass through from front shoulder out the bottom.

I ordered a over under ring scope mount and a 4x scope but I never got to sight it in, now I am wondering if I even need it.

Congratulations on the deer. I have no problem buying the less expensive brands of muzzleloader, I could buy the most expensive if I wanted to; but why? Some of these gun manufacturers are priced, IMO way out of line. I think CVA has a well made product that is priced reasonable and the guns will shoot. In closing don't worry or make excuses about the gun you use being cheap, if it works for you, that is all that matters.... ;)

Congrats on the deer.

+1
Own two CVA guns, an old Stag Horn and a Mag. Hunter.   Both shoot very well and the Stag Horn has killed an awful lot of deer and hogs over that past 8 years.  I like it because it is so light.

Also own an Encore.  It cost a lot of money, is awful heavy and it shoots no better than my CVA guns.  It usually resides in the safe while the Stag Horn hunts with me.

;D First congratulations on that good shot and the deer. I know that CVA makes a good product and out of six hunters in our camp all but one carries a CVA. My son for years used a CVA mag hunter and after watching him take several bucks I decided it was time to get a new muzzleload and decided on a CVA Kodiak mag. I am not disappointed.
