compensating vs regular scopes for a 17 HMR

What are your feelings on a compensating scope vs regular scope for my HMR?
I have no experience with the compensating scopes

I like the idea and bought one of the BSA Sweet 17 scopes but ended up trading off the rifle without ever firing it so the scope still sits unused where I put it after buying it. The few reports I've seen on them indicate they do what they are designed to quite well.

My brother has a Burris with the ballistic plex on his 17 and it works quite well for him.  I watched him put a first round hit on a rockchuck at 290 yards(I wouldn't recommend this, not much pop left at that range), and ground squirrels from 100-200 yards are common.  The biggest problem when the wind isn't blowing is the inconsistency of the ammo.

My bsa sweet 17 didnt work well tried it a 200 didnt work. had it dead on at a 100 yards, so i moved the turret back to a 100 and held a little high and drilled the little water battle. a better quality scope might work well but i didnt have any luck with the BSA sweet 17,in my eyes the bsa was junk

I have a 3-9x PFI Rapid Reticle (www.rapidreticle.com) on my Ruger Charger (22 LR) that works great to 200 yds. The reticle had to be recald. to the trajectory of the load, but once the profile was set up it was just fine.

I weighed"all" the options and finally paid more than I had planned ( $160 at optics store)
I got a Muller 8.5-25X40 AO tactical with a mil dot reticle.
Reasons
more versatile as it can be used on anything except large magnums
Mil dot allows flexibility and will help in windy conditions AND THE DOT ONLY COVERS 1/4 INCH AT 25x MAGNIFICATION AT 1OO YARDS
Will focus down to 15 yards
Good name and quality.
limited lifetime warranty.
