First Buck of the 2008 - 09 Deer Season

Well finally...  Used the Howa 1500 Stainless 24" Bbl in .300 Win Mag to bring this HOSS down!



I hunted a Buddy Stand on the lease Saturday, was suppose to go to Tennessee to duck hunt but was still feeling a head cold... 

Between blowing my nose and seeing about 20 does and 5 spikes (anything less than a 8 point), I was looking for Mr. Big - either the 12 point I saw the prior year at season end or the 10 point I coul not get a 15 foot shot at during Bow Season.

The Bucks are starting to seek here is Tuscaloosa County, Alabama (I hunt in Northport, just north of T-Town)...

at 11:00 AM this Big Bodied 8 point popped out of the woods to my left, without a hesitation I aimed the Howa.300 Win Mag and hammered him!

Nice. I got two deer the 7th, one nice sized doe and the other a small buck.


 I hope to get some more during the Christmas holidays....

Yep... 

I am headed to the woods as much as possible over the last two weeks of December, taking vacation for the Rut (2 weeks) and plan to be in the woods moving around from stand to stand from this evening through January 4th (Breaking for CHRISTmas Day, a trip to Maw in Laws and the Sugar Bowl)...

Hunt camp is only 45 minutes away, just north of T-Town so it's a easy commute every other day to come to the house for a hot meal, shower and head back...
