I have a still new in the box Rossi 62SA I never got around to using, but they are basically a copy of the Winchester 1890/1906 gallery rifles.   I bought it to replace the 4th 1906 I had worn out and retired.   Like with the Winchesters, safety is half cock.   I grew up on a ranch and carried the 1890 and 1906 Winchesters from the early 50's (and '03's), always carried them on half cock and never had a problem.    Simple matter if you don't trust half cock to teach the kid to carry it chamber empty and pump for the shot I guess.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Stock up since they are listed as discontinued on the Taurus site.

I've got one and it's got the safety dohickey on the bolt that keeps the firing pin from striking the shell.  I've shot it a bunch and it's a hoot.

I set mine up with some improved sights (gold bead front and semi-buckhorn rear).
