There wasn't any place on the west coast, perhaps in all of the whole country where he could have had a jury that wasn't aware of the double murder trial.
What is the point of Life if you can't have fun.

  From what I understand,it wasn't so much the past record that clinched it as the tape, recorded during the holdup.
  Frankly, I am not so sure that hiding a person's past record is the right thing to do. In my Army unit in Germany in the 60s, a fellow was accused of forcible rape. Now, we know the Army hates this crime and will positively hang anybody convicted of it..and rightly so. The GI swore it was consensual and having a choice, selected to be tried in a German court. Best move he ever made; the German court allowed such prior info to be introduced. That info, plus testimony of some who knew her long term clinched it. It showed that she had accused others previously and never proved her case..just craved the publicity.

   I am surprised that this post hasn't received much comment( 1 of 32 viewers)..wonder why ?

The idiot was accused, and convicted, of kidnapping and armed robbery.  I think there was also a conspiracy to commit charge in there as well.  The evidence to that was on the recorded tape and that is what got him 9-33, which is just desserts for that num-nut.

He may have gotten away with the knife murders of his wife and her boyfriend, even after staging the slowest 'get-a-way' in the history of vehicular chases and he played every card he could and managed to stay out of prison for the murders but he is just one stupid 'whatever you want to call him' , 'cause it fits.

Well, he will be playing prison ball now and anyone who cares about him can send vaseline.  JMTCW.

To answer your questions:  he can't really own anything.  Everything he owned that was of value was taken by the courts and given over to the Goldman family as a part of a $33 million settlement in the civil suit on the murders.  The 'guy' who had it was a legitimate sports memorabilia collector who bought the 'stuff' legally, with the proceeds going to the Goldman family and the family of his late wife.

He set up the meeting in a hotel room to maintain privacy in trying to recoup/recover some of his stuff, because it is not legal for him to own it as a result of the court case.  He didn't care if it was legal or not he just wanted it back - oh poor me and boo hoo, but here is just another case of one more of our stellar citizens without morals or ethics who thought he could still do whatever it was he wanted to do.  He set up a private meeting rather than going through open legal channels because he knew that what he was doing was illegal.  The collector legally owned his 'stuff' at the time.

He was found not guilty of the double murder in criminal court because that one cop screwed up the case with the bloody glove business and was accused of planting evidence, but he was found guilty of complicity in the two murders in civil court.  His penalty was $33 million and he both had to continue to pay the Goldman family and his late wife's family from whatever proceeds he earned as well as sell off all his 'stuff' to pay the $.

 Hey! guess you're right Mikey..he's not supposed to own anything.. The part where I thought he was a really dumb potato was; if he thought somebody had something of his and it didn't belong to them, why didn't he call the law to retrieve his goodies?..But as you pointed out..they could not have been his goodies.
   When I first heard about the stupid holdup, I simply put myself in his place..If somebody stole some of my private property, I wouldn't pull a holdup to get it back, since that would only make a criminal of myself. Two wrongs do not make a right.
  TM: He hadf a friend right beside him at sentencing..his pal went "up the river" also.

TM;
  Although possibly not legal in a technical sense (not for sure though)..your retrieving you legally owned boat might be no great shakes.
 Certainly, it is not anywhere as egregious as OJ's holdup, kidnapping and robbery(IMO). A totally different story.
